Influencer Under the Influence
She helped me with body dysmorphia. Now she promotes it in the form of gender dysphoria.
I’ve seen a few GCs say they’ve been blocked by Alex Light. I’m one of them.
Who the fuck is Alex Light? She’s an Instagram ‘influencer’. I liked her; she’s a recovering bulimic and anorexic. When she’s at her most interesting, she speaks out against diet culture and body shaming. She calls for standardised women’s clothing sizes and dissects how the media plays women off against each other over bodies and appearance. She reassures people not to worry about their shape, because the most ‘ideal’ body type is something that changes throughout the decades like fashion, and to just ignore it and learn to love your own unique shape.
At her least interesting, she’s your garden variety Instagram narcissist, posting the minutiae of her day and expecting people to give two fucks about her dog or her ADHD or her random night thoughts.
I rooted for her success; her posts are helpful to someone like me, with body dysmorphia and she has a book, which I never bought - just as well, cause I’d wipe my arse on it now. Since hooking up with Jeremy Clarkson’s rich girl narcissist fellow influencer daughter she’s got herself a podcast and it’s full of woke wank and “queer” people. By queer, I don’t mean gay, I mean heterosexual tourists. Genderists, AKA females roleplaying as gay men. Fuck off. Then she was hosting Deborah Frances-White, the TRA handmaiden ‘comedian’ - and no, I don’t think Deborah isn’t funny “because she’s a woman”, as she frequently accuses people. She’s a dick-pandering twat who says stupid things all the time and goes on about how difficult it is to do “professional womanning”. WHAT?!
But I digress, back to Fragile Alex. Why did she block us? Did we harass her? Did we abuse her? Did we call her fat like the nasty men that she always shames on her page, but allows to stay?
No to any of those.
She posted an image of an advert featuring an obese heterosexual couple… where the man was really a female and the woman was really a male. With a load of Tumblresque trigger warnings for !!!TRANSPHOBIA!!! and how these trans bodies deserve exposure. I unfollowed her at that point. I’m fucking sick of seeing praise for chopped-up frankentrans bodies on my social media. I don’t want to see mastectomy scars unless that person has had a good reason to have her breasts removed, like cancer. I don’t want to see dick bulges on ‘women’. I’m tired of trigger warnings over the most innocuous posts.
A few people asked Alex how she squares her ‘learn to embrace your own body, and stop starving yourself for fashion’ stance with the trans ‘chop tits off and invert your dick to love yourself’ thing that was being promoted in the adverts. They argued that those bodies shouldn’t be shown to kids. They’re the antithesis of body positivity. Someone else asked why adverts need to be “queered” when children can see them.
I liked the comments. Alex was obviously very distraught by this because she blocked me and all my other accounts (insta allows you to block all accounts attached to a device). She obviously had a bit of a backlash to the PRAISE THE OBESE TRANNIES post, because she deleted it.
I don’t get the point of her blocking me because I’d unfollowed her but I won’t lie, I’m pissed off. I liked Alex and found her message helpful. It’s a shame her new fame means she has suddenly become an angry TRA who lacks the critical thinking skills to realise you can’t be “LOVE YOUR BODY” at the same time as “HATE YOUR BODY AND MODIFY IT COS GENDER!”
Go well Alex. But you need to shut your dumb vanity apps down once in a while and look at what’s happening to women, gay people and CHILDREN.
