I’m not sure how to articulate this, as I’m not a good writer when it comes to analysis like this. Either way, it will be an unpopular opinion, I’m sure.
Anyway so Matt Lucas sold out to the trans lobby yesterday, by attacking and defaming LGB Alliance as anti-trans and he informed his followers that he does'’t even care to know gays who support them and according to Graham Linehan, it was all to protect his reputation for a gig he’s got coming up, presumably Drag Race.
Because Matt’s show Little Britain has been ‘cancelled’ in the new era of hyper-political-correctness, he is trying to atone for his sins of ‘blackface’ and mocking badly-passing transwomen.
While I agree, blackface is bad (he could have had real black guest stars playing these comedy characters), I hate this ‘everything is offensive’ stance. Yes, Little Britain was grotesque, but I took it as a mockery of horrible people, not as the views of the writers/stars themselves. Why can’t we laugh at beardy men unconvincingly attempting to pass themselves off as female? Surely one can feature racist characters who say offensive things without the assumption the writer is racist? Matt Lucas and David Walliams’ ‘I’m a lady’ characters (Emily and Florence) have now edged their way into real life, what with hairy blokes infiltrating lesbian dating apps and getting real lesbians banned. Life has imitated art. So why are some of my fellow TERFs acting like it’s offensive that Matt and David dressed as unconvincing transwomen, whilst objecting to that happening in real life? It makes them seem just as bad as the prissy little cancellers on Tumblr, the very people pushing Queer Theory on us in the first place. Using their comedy as a ‘you used to be transphobic too’ doesn’t really work when you’re simultaneously angry (rightly) that bearded men are calling themselves women and demanding we accept them as women. I’m looking at you, Alex Drummond.
If you’re going to condemn Matt and David for Emily and Florence, then it should be because they’re failing to see that a huge proportion of the transwomen they claim to support are exactly like their caricatures. Matt should be alarmed that Emily and Florence have come true, and are bullying lesbians (and gay men), hence the need for LGB Alliance, but instead of showing solidarity to his fellow same-sex attracted people, he’s pandering and apologising for taking the piss out of that sort of person and desperately trying to distance himself from it so he can be squeaky clean for his appearance on Drag Race.
I guess sticking up for non-gender cult homosexuals isn’t where the money lies, though Matt, is it?
I’m going to conclude this with this statement: just because the writer makes offensive characters, it doesn’t meant the writer thinks this way.
And: Matt Lucas, trans rights activists are not innocent people who just want to pee, they’re a bunch of sexist homophobes harassing women who are exactly like Emily and Florence with their ‘Ladies’ Testiclé’. Ladies don’t have testicles and it’s homophobic and sexist to suggest otherwise.
I like your 'that's telling 'em' style. New subscriber. I'll be reading more
Too right. It's dreadfully lesbophobic to insinuate that any hairy old bloke could, in any way actually be a lesbian.
