I wrote this nine days ago but didn’t post it because it was mainly to log it as soon as possible and partly because people will dismiss you as weird.
I was sitting in my garden around 10:10 pm with my mother cooling off after the hottest day on record in the UK. I was drinking tea, looking at the stars. Half of the sky over the houses was cloudy and stormy looking, but the rest was very thin patchy clouds with stars twinkling through the gaps.
We discussed and pointed at stars for a while before I noticed what looked like a moving star rise up above a tall birch tree, several gardens away. I just assumed it was a very high plane so didn’t think about it much until it stopped for about 5 seconds. I blinked thinking I was imagining this because the aircraft was very small; it was a light as small as the rest of the stars; perhaps I was mistaken. It was far too high to be a helicopter, and was soundless. Then it jetted forward, in a split second. It didn’t leave a streak of light behind it, it didn’t break the sound barrier (no sonic boom) and it didn’t leave any jet contrails. It then began to flash and move in the same way a plane would, and it was up above patchy clouds, though you could still see its flashing lights even through them. It was too high up to see whether its lights were red and green like a plane, but it certainly behaved like a very high plane with its intermittent flashing and the rate at which it crossed the sky.
I told my mother what I’d witnessed and we watched it as it flew above us and we carried on talking. When it was above me, I had to look away, because my neck was hurting, but my mum kept an eye on it. She remarked that it was turning back. Sure enough, it was going back the way it had come. I said, “Planes don’t just go back.”
My mum replied that when it turned, it was a tight angle, like the “curve of a paperclip”, which planes don’t do. We live 12 miles from the nearest airport and we’re under the landing flight path, and see many planes turning in this area: none turn in this way not even when they’re ‘stacking’, waiting for landing. Indeed, other planes came over and behaved in their usual way, though lower than this UFO.
Just when it reached near the tree again, it darted forwards at great speed and dipped behind the tree. I stood up and through the gaps in the tree, I saw it stop dead again, before dropping again and vanishing. All the while during this, there was distant lightning, but no thunder and this storm did not show up on the website lightningmaps, that is normally quite accurate.
When I say the UFO dropped, I don’t mean it dropped out of the sky, I mean it sped across in a downwards arc as if following the curve of the earth before disappearing.
I messaged friends to describe what happened and they offered some theories. One friend, without waiting for a description, dismissed it as a shooting star she’d heard about. Nope. I’ve seen many of those: they leave a trail and are gone in a second. She’s my least intelligent friend so I was expecting the least intelligent answer. My other friend said it was a helicopter. I’d already considered that. Too high, too silent. One laughed and made jokes about aliens. Another suggested a drone. It could be. But when I’ve encountered drones, they sound like a swarm of bees. Can they go above the clouds? Can they use soundless warp speed, yet also act like planes?
I’m not saying it’s an alien spacecraft or anything like that but it was definitely a UFO that did not behave like any vehicle I’ve seen, choppers, planes or drones. I’m so confused, I can’t stop thinking about it and haven’t seen anything like it on YouTube UFO compilations.
